1999 SM TOWN Winter - H.O.T, Shinwha, S.E.S and Fly to the Sky sing Jingle Bells

This song is my jam right now <3 cutest Christmas song ever, seriously. JUST LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT THEM. Wahh~ *_* there's a Christmas party I wouldn't at all mind going to :DD too bad it was ten years ago... Tony's 'Ho, ho, ho~ last Christmas before the millenium!' slays me. And of course Kangta's little solo. And Brian from FTTS looks so young and all shy and cute *_* HOLY EYELINER, BATMAN JAEWON. I mean, I know he has little eyes but I don't think that was the way to make him look any better XD; and the S.E.S girls! I just D'AWWW all over this video.

Christmas will be bearable if I have things like this to distract me from the traditional things.

Man, this is hard work.

Last night, LJ ate my post so I simply deleted it rather than try to fix it again, since the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth anyway. I prefer to have less negativity in my LJ anyway, and my angry!Rain gif and general angry mini rant about Super Junior’s current situation wasn’t really worth the read so… yeah. I got rid of it.

Here, obvious distraction…!

I also finally have a tag for gifs.

In more enjoyable news, I have taken on the mammoth task of making my own animated mood theme, just like the Big Bang one I’m using at the moment, but of Kangta (doesn’t that just show how my bias has changed?). They will be 100x50px, simply animated moods, just like the Big Bang one I’m using. I’m still a little rusty at this, but I made 10 last night and it’s looking good (even if there’s about a million more to do)! The only downside of the program I’m using is that when I shrink the gifs to those dimensions, it seems to put a black stripe down the right hand border :/ but ehh. It’s barely noticeable.

I’m excited at the thought of using a mood theme that I made myself X3 Hell, I’m excited just at the fact I get to finally use H.O.T gifs which as far as I know DON’T EXIST.

To not break your bandwidth I’ll simply link to some of the gifs I’ve made, so the people interested can yoink them.
H.O.T. related:
WooHyuk intentionally and quite violently running into a door
WooHyuk silly-dancing in his We Are The Future outfit
Hee Jun and Kangta fanservice dance

Outside Castle montage
IBM commercial cut 1

IBM commercial cut 2

Kangta related:
Similar to the gif above but an omake where he giggles
Kangta being a dork in Mickey Mouse ears
Being startled then smiling adorably

Unzipping Vanness’ top
Melancholy rain (Thanks God MV)

Cute couple (Thanks God MV)

Kangta likes you. Loves you. Will see you later.

Smoking can be sexy

Aaaaaand I’m done. For now.

Here I was already to do a happy post...

But KPop fandom is abusive.
I direct link you to [info]jaybomb's The 2009 Shit List. It was a bad year to get into KPop.

Why, Geng, why?

It's such a long time I don't know where to start.

I've turned off the Twitter re-posting. It's fair to say the frequency of my LJ posts isn't going to get much higher, but those who are going to be on Twitter are on Twitter now, and you can follow me there.

I'm still living in Dandenong. It's still cheap, and I've just finished using two lawn mower tanks worth of petrol mowing the lawn. It got a bit wild out there and the leopard was getting ballsy. I might still be here next year. The plan currently is to find a place with Jen, but it's not set in stone yet. If that doesn't work it'd make sense to try to find a smaller, cheaper place as Little Miss has got a PhD scholarship and so will be moving closer in to the city.

Life is really just too busy these days for me to find the time to chronicle it. That's a good thing. A steady, interesting 9-5 job is also something I'm grateful for. I must have been incredibly lucky to fall into it given how hard some damn good engineers I went to uni with have found it to find a job.

Work brings interesting new projects, constant change and reasonable challenge. Not to mention having enough money that I no longer have to think about it before getting petrol or lunch. I enjoyed being a student, but I enjoy not being abjectly poor much more.

A few months ago I upgraded my laptop from a PowerBook G4 12" to a MacBook Pro 15". The PowerBook G4 was one fo the best computers Apple ever produced. It lasted me nearly 6 years, with around 2 hours of battery life in the original battery left at the end. It stood up to constant, daily use at uni then at work.

There's still no replacement in Apple's line up for it - Apple later brought out the MacBook Air which was meant to fill the same niche, but it's not nearly as full of features or even as small as the PowerBook G4.

The MacBook Pro has been an extraordinary disappointment. The keyboard is not as good as the PowerBook. The trackpad click is tough, shallow and uneven. There's still no solution to the aluminium pitting problem.

It came with 10.6. Until 10.6.2 it didn't work with Viewsonic monitors (including the one I have on my desk at work) and support is still pretty shit. I've lost a screw out the bottom. The hinge is too loose and the screen falls closed on you if you're using the laptop on your back and have it propped it up on your knees.

I had a harddrive fail after a couple of months. I've seen more kernel panics since getting this machine than I saw in years of using the PowerBook. Right now it freezes randomly - sometimes three or four times a day, sometimes not once in three or four days. Nothing shows up in the logs, it just comes to a screeching halt. It doesn't matter what programmes I'm running, what temperature it is or what I have plugged in.

I once saw the screen flickering just like this, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the power section. It hasn't done it again, though.

This morning Mail decided my archives were corrupt and now refuses to open. I don't really want to switch to something like Thunderbird because I use it at work and it kinda sucks.

So this one has been a real lemon. There are a few nice things about it - it being much faster than the PowerBook is a plus, and the backlit keyboard and LED-backlit display are nice. (I went with the matte screen after seeing Little Miss's glossy MacBook.

Christmas presents are mostly sorted. I'm happy with what little miss and I got dad, the other ones are what they are.

We've done the Livingston side already. Christmas day will be at Ballarat, and Boxing say will be in Sunshine.

I went to Robot Wars back in October. That was awesome fun. Most of the robots were featherweight, which is up to 13 and a bit kilograms. They were almost all using motors from electric drills, mostly because they're cheap and they're easy to replace when they shred themselves.

The rules of robot wars are basically that kinetic weapons are the go. (bash, smash, whip, flip.) There was one robot that shot fire (butane) but it was spectacularly unsuccessful.

It's definitely something that's on my to-do-list. The robot design would be quite basic, but my plan is to use an intelligent control system with some sort of feedback from the wheels so that I can spin and move at the same time. With the robots there, they'd sit there spinning, waiting for the opponent to run into them, and it wasn't terribly interesting to watch.

It's also an excuse to play with ARM chips. The one we quoted on fell through. I've got another project coming up early next year that will be either the XMega or an ARM Cortex M3. (They want an international-markets, multi-axis, fully CNC version of this, which we do the electronics for. I'm leaning toward the ARM because Atmel, in their glorious wisdom, still haven't put engineers on getting the open source tools working with the chips.

I really don't understand why semiconductor companies aren't getting it: make your tools as easy to use as possible and engineers will use your chips. That's how Microchip got out early with the PICs, that's how Atmel took over (because you could use GCC to write code) and I'm fairly sure it's why the FPGAs are still not taking off.

So I have a project for which I'm sitting on the brink of choosing what silicon to use. The volume for the Australian version has been pretty good and is growing rapidly. The Rolls Royce international, do-anything version will hopefully take off to even higher volume. I can use the XMegas, which has the advantage that we've already got one board mostly working with them at work, but I'd have to use Windows as avrdude can't program them. Or, I could use ARM, which is a bit of a big unknown because we haven't used them at all, but at least I'd be able to use my laptop. (And the chip has hardware divide, which is damn nice to have when you're doing CNC mathematics.)

Back in October I ordered one of these which still hasn't arrived. (Well, they apparently shipped them a week ago) That will let me prototype the big project up and discover any big problems standing in the way. If all goes well, then that's the chip I'll be using in this project.

So I have at least a motor driver project lined up for playing with ARM chips, and probably another project for work.

Of the movies I've seen recently, I enjoyed: 9, Bound (1996), The Ramen Girl, I Sell The Dead, Zombieland, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Moon. I'd cal the following overrated and worth avoiding: 2012, Up.

I'm posting because I'm on holidays. Jen and I are planning to go to Canberra, though this plan isn't terribly planned yet.

Stay safe and cool for the summer, folks. The roads remain full of morons and there seems to be absolutely no functioning enforcement out there.
GO BIG BANG!

Honestly, I haven't been following their Japanese activities all that closely. I did watch some of their TV appearances earlier in the year... and I just wanted to die from second hand embarrassment. Looks like their Japanese is still fail. Work at it, boys, ok?
(I'd say they've spent a lot of time in Korea lately; what with GD's and Taeyang's solo promotions.)

20th December 2009

And sorry to the people I invited to 1806's New Year's night with me. Because... I won't be going. For this reason:

Yeah, I'm easily swayed. But I don't CARE-EH-EH-EH-EH-EH. The one night I went out to Bass Lounge the other week was so epic, and they didn't even play a great deal of Asian music. This is going to be awesoooome. (It also helps it's half the cost of the other event...)

With a lot of k-pop groups I'm not into them for the music. There are some I'm only into for the music. There are some I love both the music and the members themselves (2PM is a good example).

But with U-Kiss... I'm really just in it for the gay.

Boys. Let's be honest. Between playing at vampires in a closet and doing extremely suggestive photoshoots, I don't think it's going to fly with anyone that you guys are straight. Kevin, you girly man you, you have both Kibum and Alexander wanting in your pants, stop being a tease.

loooooooooooooool, GET IT ALEX.

I'm allowed to be super shallow about at least one group if I want XD. Plus I'm just updating my LJ randomly because I'm at work, no one's talking to me and I'm bored.

Melon awards

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Well that didn't go according to plan either! Was going to include some sort of pun in the subject about melons... but no.

Ryo and I had planned to watch the Melon music awards like we did with the MAMA awards. I was looking forward to it because some artists who hadn’t attended the MAMAs (namely, SME artists) were scheduled to appear at Melon. But rather then the crazy, near-hyperventilation and excitement of watching MAMA (while chatting about it in MSN with other k-pop fans), the Melon awards fell short. That's mostly to do with the fact we couldn't watch them!

We jumped onto Soliren's live feed as that's where we had watched MAMA. We were able to catch the opening performance joint-stage there (which was quite good!) but shortly after his stream crashed. As I understand it, it overloaded the servers and their account was suspended? (Second hand information from Twitter via LJ, reliable sources yo.) Thus the whole site went down. That's ok, the Omona crowd are quick and a link to an alternative stream was shared. (I plain old couldn't get the Melon awards site stream to work.) There were 600 viewers on the new stream when we jumped on. That doubled within a minute and continued to climb. At first the stream was ok, but it began to lag and got really bad with 3000 viewers and died when the viewer numbers nearly hit 5000. Judging from comments in Omona_lounge it worked for some people and not for others. I got lucky for a bit while Ryo had nothing. Thus I caught 8ight's performance – must really look them up sometime. A mixed group, oh em gee! Despite the name, and K-pop's reputation for large groups, there's only three members; two guys and a girl. But it started to lag terribly again (play for 1 second, die for five seconds, play for 1 second, die for five seconds, skip, repeat) and cut out completely once more so I gave up a bit after 11pm and joined Ryo in watching You Tube videos instead. I still stayed up until about 1am. Just because. All in all, I think I saw nearly five performances of the Melon awards. The opening stage and 2PM's were the only ones of those I cared about, and I missed the second half of 2PM's coz of lag.

Trying to put the streaming issues aside, the Melon awards just didn't seem as entertaining as the MAMAs. Their staging, or something, just didn't promote quite the level of anticipation and excitement. May be it was because the Melon awards had less controversy, and there was nothing unexpected about it. The artists seemed to all be housed backstage, so you saw less of them. The parts of performances I saw didn't strike me as much different to what the artists normally do on weekly Inki or Music Bank shows, except that they performed two songs instead one. But I will also say, my lack of enthusiasm for the Melons was greatly caused by not being able to watch it properly, and that it had less groups I really wanted to see. Yes, even though I had been excited because of SME attending.

I will watch the YouTube uploads of performances tonight and that may change my mind. There could very well be an amazing perf or two amongst those that will sway my opinion.

On a positive note; Jang Geun Suk and Park Shin Hye made nice MCs.

This post about Big Bang's Big Show this morning makes me happy. Can't wait for the DVD! Sad I'm missing it but I'll be there for the 2011 show!

This post about Tohoshinki's new single leaves me with mixed feels as everything DBSK does =(
...Yoochun has short hair again! Well everyone else is saying it...

Well...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Essentially, what we attempted last night; watching the Melon Music Awards with a whole bunch of us lol-ing in MSN, pretty much failed. A couple of people didn't show, which was sadface in itself, but although everything started off smoothly, that soon stopped.

We started watching it on Solinren's stream, as that's where we'd watched the MAMA awards--which although it has a lot of problems at the start they managed to get working well--watching the beginning of the show, and the viewer count kept climbing. The suddenly, Solin's feed goes down. Not only does his feed go down, but his whole site. I'm still not sure what happened but he was streaming from Melon's site and that page didn't appear to be working... we figured something had crashed, somewhere.

So we frantically hunted for a new stream. Someone posts one in Omona. Score! So we happily flit over there to keep watching, and apparently so does everyone else because the viewer count begins to climb. The more people that enter the channel, the more it begins to lag. We curse it out but it starts to become unwatchable after a while, and at one point goes down completely. My frustration peaked when it came back after a while of nothing and I saw I'd missed part of 2PM's performance. Because srsly, that's just not on.

We remained optimistic for a while but at about 11pm I gave up and closed it all down. I didn't want to wait for the Youtube uploads but it wasn't giving me much choice. I'll watch those later today. Instead, I went onto Youtube and browsed funny H.O.T. vids until it was almost 1am =__=

According to the comments on this morning's post though... I didn't miss too much >_>

15th December 2009

This is a party you can attend from your very own home 8D as long as you have an interest in k-pop and a decent internet connection.

Last month, [info]mad_hatter__ , [info]mazohyst_ruki and I watched the MNet Asian Music Awards (affectionaly and retardedly known as MAMA) and while we had the window up we were also all in chat together spazzing out about everything live. It was so much fun and now that the Melon Awards are going to be on, we're going to do it again

What: Melon Awards live streaming MSN PARTY
Where:
Your own home~! Or mine. At your computer.
When:
Wednesday 16th December (TOMORROW), 7pm Korean time (9pm Melbourne time)
How:
Jump on MSN and Solinren's live feed at the time of the awards ceremony. There's a high chance Solin will be hosting the feed for the Melon Awards the way they did with the MAMA award, but if they don't, I'll track down somewhere else to watch it. I (or Hattie, whoever's on first) will be hosting a chat for the awards so just message one of us if you want in.

This is going to be awesome again, you guys 8D it was so worth it during the MAMA award, plus there's going to be a whole heap of guests at Melon that MAMA didn't have, such as SNSD and Super Junior. Get in touch with me if you're still unsure as to how this thing will work.

BRING FOOD AND DRINKS. IF IT'S ANYTHING LIKE MAMA YOU WON'T WANT TO LEAVE AND THE AD BREAKS ARE REALLY SHORT.
